Riddles for Believers

WHY ARE MY
TEN COMMANDMENTS MUCH BETTER
THAN GOD’S?

1. Do not have sex with others without their consent. It is rape.
2. Never have sex with children, it is always rape.
3. Do not even touch people sexually without their consent.
4. Thou shalt wash your hands to prevent many illnesses.
5. Never own other humans, slavery is immoral.
6. Never cause anyone unnecessary harm.
7. Clean up after yourself.

8. Be careful with the earth, there is no alternative living space.
9. Question authority.
10. Treat others the way you would want to be treated.*

Nowhere in the Bible does God forbid rape, genocide or slavery. They are all recommended. Instead he forbids eating shellfish, yet most shellfish is nutritious.

*The Golden Rule predates religion by thousands of years. There is no evidence that it came from a god.

GOD: “I AM A DECEIVER”

“the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth..”
– (2 Chronicles 18:22)
“..I the Lord have deceived that prophet.” – (Ezekiel 14:9)

GOD: “NO…I AM NOT A DECEIVER”

“If what a prophet proclaims…does not take place or come true,
that is a message the Lord has not spoken.” (Deut. 18:20-22)

GOD: “LOOK, JUST DON’T TRUST ME”

“Do not trust in deceptive words..” – (Jeremiah 7:4)

WHO WAS THE FIRST CHRISTIAN NAME CALLER?

“Anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger
of the fire of hell.” – Jesus (Matthew 5:22)

“You fools!” – JESUS (Matthew 23:17)
“They are dogs!” – JESUS (Matthew 15:26)
“they are swine!” – JESUS (Matthew 7:6)

DRINKERS GO TO HELL  –  DRINKERS SUCH AS JESUS?

“Jesus came eating and drinking…and they said, Behold…a drunkard.” (Matthew 11:19)

“All drunkards go to hell.” (1 Corinthians 6:10)

1. If a drunkard is one who occasionally drinks alcohol, it appears Jesus is guilty according to Matthew.
Is Jesus in Hell?

2. If a drunkard is one who drinks every day, Winston Churchill is in Hell even though he preserved the freedom to worship Jesus instead of Hitler.

3. If a drunkard is one who tastes alcohol the Benedictine Monks of Normandy are all going to Hell. They make, drink and sell bottles of Benedictine, an herbal Liqueur. Bottles of Bénédictine have the initials D.O.M. on the label, which stands for “Deo Optimo Maximo” (“To God, most good, most great”).

4. If a drunkard is one who experienced drunkenness even once in their lives that would include almost every Pope, every Saint and every Priest!

Are they all in Hell, too?
Is Jesus in Hell? Or (most likely) is the Bible just wrong?

“I did not come to bring peace, but division.” – JESUS (Luke 12:49-51)

Jesus agrees with all of it,
“The Lord and I are one” – Jesus (John 1:17)

IS JESUS UNSURE?

“Believe…or you shall be condemned”
– Jesus (John 6:53-54) (Mark 16:16)

If the message is true why should I be threatened over it?
Jesus does not threaten me regarding belief in gravity, the color of grass, the ocean or air.

I SHOULD BE MEEK…TO WIN EVERYTHING?

I can have the entire earth all for myself
if I pretend I don’t want it.
“The meek shall inherit the earth” – Jesus (Matthew 5:5)

An appeal to the passive-aggressive in us all?

CAN ‘LOVE’ AND ‘KILL’ BE THE SAME THING?

Would you trust a child’s textbook which claims
“Cigarettes are good for you” on one page
and
“Cigarettes are bad for you” on another page?

Now look at the Bible:

“Kill enemies” – JESUS (Luke 19:27)
“Love enemies” – JESUS (Matthew 5:44)

WHO SHOT JESUS?

We are told Jesus “died” for us.
He was the sacrificial ‘Lamb of God’ who gave his life so others would live. He was not murdered but was sacrificed by his own consent for the sins of the world to save souls from Satan.

Another way of looking at it; Jesus “took a bullet” for humanity so that all men might be freed from Hell.

Who Had a Motive to Shoot Jesus?
God is the only one who required innocent blood to be spilled on the ground. God’s rule of ‘Salvation’ required a blood sacrifice – The innocent blood of Jesus had to be shed.

Thus, The Lamb of God (blood sacrifice).

ANSWER: God did it
God shot his own son to spill (His own) blood, which then magically saved humanity from the Hell which God created for humanity in the first place.

However, God’s Salvation isn’t perfect.
It only works if you believe the whole story. Otherwise, you go to Hell anyway where God has arranged an eternal torture much worse than what he did to ‘his son.’

“I…create darkness, I create evil;
I, the LORD, do all these things.” (ISAIAH 45:7)

To love God is to love someone who could think of no other way
to save humanity from Himself than to shoot his own son to death as a blood sacrifice – to Himself.

WHY DOES GOD NOT CARE
ABOUT YOUR BELIEFS MOST OF THE TIME?

All of these Natural Laws
supposedly created by God work perfectly

regardless of whether you believe in them or not:

Gravity
Human Digestion
Your heartbeat
Plate Tectonics
Atomic Theory
Special Relativity
Quantum Mechanics
Heliocentrism
Water Freezes at 0 Degrees Celsius

Yet for the supposedly most important Law of Salvation
belief is required by this God.
Worse, there is no clear guidance!

FOR SALVATION YOU WILL NEED :

The ‘Right’ faith – is it Orthodox? Pentecostal? Baptist? Mormon? Protestant? Charismatic? Catholic? Sunni Islam? Shia Islam? Hindu? Zoroastrian? Trinitarian? Theraveda Buddhist? Jainist?.. etc.

The ‘Right’ geography – Kansas is Christian, Tehran is Muslim, Sweden is Atheist, Bangalore is Hindu, etc.

The ‘Right’ luck – Parents taught you the wrong religion? Too bad.

The ‘Right’ guesswork – Sort out the meanings of peculiar ancient ideas. Ancient people couldn’t travel long distances so they believed the earth was flat – and so The Bible speaks of pillars holding up the sky. Where else is the Bible wrong about reality?

The ‘Right’ inclinations
– Sort out contradictory and discrepant texts. ‘Love’ and ‘Kill’ are often interchangeable.

The ‘Right’ translations – Proper translations of other translations by third, fourth and fifth parties of other translations of lost languages.

The ‘Right’ Commandments – There are 3 sets of 10 commandments and most of these are understood to be nonsense; “never cook a goat in its mother’s milk” – (Exodus 34:10)
The 602 stoning laws are ‘commandments’ by another name and most of them are thought to be obsolete. But it depends who you talk to.

The ‘Right’ Medical Care – If certain parts of your brain which process understanding of mythology are altered by a stroke or disease; or if you are given certain medications, you will lose your interest in God even if you believed in it before.

The ‘Right’ Information Avoidance – If there is only one true God it will be important to avoid being persuaded by any information from the other religions.

HOW CAN GOD ANSWER OUR PRAYERS IF HE DOESN’T UNDERSTAND ENGLISH?

All of the earliest texts of the bible were written in Greek and old Hebrew and Jesus spoke in Aramaic, a lost language.
Since all of these texts had to be translated in order to be disseminated throughout the world, what reason does anyone have to believe God hears prayers in anything other than Greek, Hebrew or Aramaic?

If God could speak English, why didn’t he?

“GOD EXISTS”

Which God exists?
“Mine alone.”
Why your’s and not another’s?
“Faith”

– said the Muslim
– said the Christian
– said the Jew
– said the Hindu
– said the Satanist

What use is Faith
if it proves each god true
while it disproves each god as well?

“HEY ATHEIST,
YOU WERE NEVER A TRUE BELIEVER”

Not so.

You once believed in Santa.
But you don’t believe now.
Were you just a liar until you turned 8?
No. You discovered something and you changed your mind.

I once believed in God
But I don’t believe now.
Was I a liar until I was 50 years old?
No. I discovered something and I changed my mind.

WAS THE GOOD SAMARITAN AN ATHEIST?

“Go and do likewise” – Jesus (Luke, 10:37)

The Samaritan was not a Christian.
As it is Jesus who tells the story.

And he wasn’t really Jewish. The Samaritans were eclectic believers mixing Judaism with Paganism. From Jesus’ rabbinical point of view, the Samaritans would have been heathens; as in, non-believers in Yahweh’s absolute authority.

By using a Samaritan as his model, Jesus appears to be saying belief in a god is not necessary for good moral behavior.

Furthermore, Jesus is merely extolling the virtues of The Golden Rule – a moral code which predated Jesus by centuries.

WAS JESUS A GOOD SAMARITAN?

Jesus violates The Golden Rule
throughout the New Testament.

“They are dogs
– Jesus (Matthew, 15:26)

“deem them unworthy…remove your blessings of peace.”
– Jesus (Matthew 10:13)

“Don’t waste….on the people who are unholy. Don’t throw your pearls to pigs!”
– Jesus (Matthew 7:6)

“shake the dust off…for a testimony against them.”
– Jesus (Mark, 6:11)

Hate your parents…hate your life, or you are not worthy of me.”
– Jesus (Luke 14:26)

If the Samaritan Parable demonstrates that one does not need a belief in god to be moral, Jesus demonstrates that belief in a god does not ensure moral behavior, either.

In fact, belief in God is mostly structured
against the Golden Rule.

“have nothing to do with him, that he may be ashamed.”
(2 Thessalonians 3:14)

IS FREE WILL JUST A PARLOR TRICK?
DOES GOD CHOOSE YOU?

OR DO YOU CHOOSE GOD?

If God sends the power of the Holy Spirit to convert you to Jesus,
doesn’t that violate your free will to say no?
If God does NOT send the power of the Holy Spirit to convert you to Jesus, doesn’t that violate your free will to say yes?

Either way, God is tinkering with your supposed free will.

WHY IS RELIGION SUCH A BAD TEACHER?

Religion is like having a class room
Where the students have to show up every day
but there is no teacher.

There are a bunch of books around and no one is even sure
which one is the text book.
Some students insist on one book;
Others argue just as much for another.

Then suddenly on the last day the teacher appears
And says he’s been watching everyone all along.

He praises the ones who somehow chose the right book
and he gives them
Milk and cookies.

But the others he sets on fire.

A COMPREHENSIVE BIBLE STUDY:

IF JESUS IS OUR SAVIOR
WHY DOES HE MAKE ETERNAL LIFE
COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE?

Jesus is completely contradictory on the matter of Eternal Life.
If you want to really confuse people you can repeatedly contradict yourself – and that is what Jesus does.

This is what Jesus says in Luke 14:26:

“Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple.” (Luke 14:26)

So if we hate everything other than Jesus, we can be Jesus’ disciple.

Yet elsewhere Jesus says, “Love your enemy” and “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” And remember one of the commandments – honor your father and mother?

So which is it Jesus?
If we want to be your disciple, should we love our enemies, our neighbors and our parents, or should we hate them?
Only someone who is very cruel would willfully contradict himself like this.

What if you want eternal life?
What do you need to do?
Presumably you need to hate everyone and life itself as Jesus commanded…but Then in Luke 10:25-28 we find another requirement, an expert in God’s law stood up to test Jesus.

“Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
“What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”
He answered: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
“You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”
(Luke 10:25-28)

Is that true? If you do this, will you have eternal life? Actually no. It is not true.

In Luke 18:18-22 Jesus says:

A certain ruler asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
“Why do you call me good?” Jesus answered. “No one is good—except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother.’”
“All these I have kept since I was a boy,” he said.
When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
(Luke 18:18-22)

The answers in Luke 10 and Luke 18 are completely different.
This looks as though Jesus is making this stuff up. Not something a nice person would do.

Then in John 6:53-58 we find more requirements:

“Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever.” (John 6:53-58)

That sounds awful, doesn’t it?

And it totally contradicts what Jesus just told the two guys in Luke 10 and Luke 18 as I already pointed out – And then there are more requirements from Matthew 18:2-3:

“He called a little child and had him stand among them. And [Jesus] said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:2-3)

How, exactly, does one become like little children?
For example, little children believe in Santa Claus, magical elves and the Easter Bunny, and often will fight fiercely with their siblings over foolish things. Are we, as adults, supposed to be like that? Jesus does not explain, making this requirement totally vague and unhelpful.

But is it true? If you “become like little children”, do you get to go to heaven? No, actually not.

Because Jesus has yet more requirements:

In reality you have to be “born again” in order to see the kingdom of God. In John 3:3-8 Jesus says:

“I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”
“How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!”
Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” (John 3:3-8)

That is completely vague.
But that is what Jesus says, and it totally contradicts all the other stuff He demanded before.

But go ahead and ignore the contradiction for a moment.
Is this true?

If we become like little children…if we regress all the way to infants by being “born again” of water and the Spirit, do we get to go to heaven?

No… Jesus is wrong again.
Because in Matthew 5:17-20 Jesus contradicts himself again and adds more requirements:

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.”
(Matthew 5:17-20)

Isn’t this absurd enough, yet?

Pharisees and scribes are adults, not children.
And if you read the Bible, you know that the Pharisees were incredibly strict about the laws of Moses. But that is what Jesus says!! He has come to VALIDATE the law – not abolish any of the law!

So, forget the “born again” stuff and the children — turn yourself into a Pharisee instead and keep all of the Law!

UNDERSTAND, What Jesus is saying – Our righteousness, and our adherence to the laws of the old testament, must exceed that of the Pharisees in order to enter the kingdom of heaven. Which means we need to start killing all sorts of sinners with stones!

And then comes more contradictory nonsense with the famous verse, John 3:16:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

So which is it?

What do you have to do to have eternal life and go to heaven?
Who knows?

There are at least 20 other contradictions scattered throughout the Bible. There is no way to know which is right, and they all contradict each other.

Now that you have examined the Bible, one thing should be incredibly clear – Jesus had absolutely no clue what he was talking about. Or his true comments are lost.

Most incredibly, “eternal life” is a total fantasy.
No one gets eternal life. What Jesus is peddling is not real.
Biologists know with certainty that all of life is a chemical reaction. Everyone who ever died is completely, eternally dead. Including the character(s) who first inspired the Jesus stories.

One simply cannot compile a coherent list of requirements for “Eternal Life” and there is no reason to believe it is possible.
And no good reason to pursue it.

I question people who claim Eternal Life is a ‘free gift’ from God.
There is nothing free about trivial pursuits. Far from it, the cost is quite high emotionally, intellectually and in the investment of time and effort.

NEVER INTERPRET SCRIPTURE!
SO SAYS THE SCRIPTURE

“…No scripture is a matter
of personal interpretation, for no prophecy
ever came through human will….”

(2 Peter 20-21)

OK – GOT IT!
DO NOT INTERPRET STUFF LIKE THIS:

“Eat my body and drink my blood”
– Jesus
(JOHN 6:45)

WHY HAVE ‘FAITH’?

If God does not exist
why should we pretend that he exists?

If God does exist
Why must we still pretend he exists?

WHY DID GOD BECOME MAN
TO DIE AS A SACRIFICE
TO HIMSELF?

1. Mankind is fallen – Original sin ensures we are all heading to eternal Hell after death.
2. All people are born in sin and heading to Hell but for the Grace of God.
3. Jesus was born as a Savior to give us a chance to live with God and avoid Hell.
4. Jesus died for my sins – but His sacrifice is useless unless I believe this to be true.
5. Jesus was God made flesh – as in, actually God on Earth (Emmanuel/Paraclete/God with Us).
6. Jesus became man to share man’s burden and experience man’s problems firsthand.
7. Jesus had to surrender his life on the cross otherwise it would not have been a true sacrifice.
8. Only Jesus (AS GOD) had the pure, most holy, innocent human blood coursing through his veins which made Him the only worthy sacrifice – “The Lamb of God” – who took away the sins of the world.
9. It is important that Jesus was not ‘murdered’, his blood had to be spilled by others – and his death had to be freely given and not taken.

Furthermore,
10. Jesus rose from the dead in accordance with the Scriptures, not for other reasons.
11. It is important that Jesus was the fulfillment of the Mosaic Law.
12. It is claimed that the Prophets foresaw Jesus’ arrival; His works, His death and His Resurrection.
13. Communion is, among other things, the reaffirmation that you accept the whole story.

TO SUMMARIZE CHRISTIANITY:

Jesus became God on earth.
Jesus sacrificed his life
as a pure, holy blood sacrifice to God,
to save man from…God’s Hell.

If you allow yourself to look past
your emotional commitment to this story
and allow yourself to think, you will spot the problem.

ZOMBIES WALKED TO RAISE AWARENESS OF JESUS

1. How many ZOMBIES visited with Thomas as they walked around Jerusalem (Matthew 27:51) ?

2. And tell me why Apostle Thomas forgot all about those ZOMBIES the following week (John 20:25) ?

If God needs us to believe in Him
in order to save us,
why won’t he provide some convincing evidence
for his existence?
Does he not know how our brains function?

  1. Richard Johnson says:

The people whose experience of God were determinative for the written scriptures were members of an embattled tribal hegemony, surrounded by a desert environment, enslaved by cruel enemies and exiled from their homeland. It is not surprising that they experienced God as a savage and ruthless Judge, liable to bring down a terrible judgement upon evil and oppression and destroy all who infringed the strict rules of cultic purity.

On the other hand, it is most unlikely that ALL gods are “imaginary.” There certainly are different “images” of God and in today’s modern age people think that unless something is literally true it is not true at all. Is this not a failure of imagination, a loss of the sense of poetry, a crude, crass materialization of the imagery of mythology?

      Richard,
I very much enjoy speculating about whether a god of some sort may exist. It is fun to contemplate whether there may be something – after all we know very little about reality except what our senses tell us.
Poetry, Art, Culture, the Numinous beauty, mystery – sure. I love all that.

My argument though is not with such speculation – it is with absolutist claims.
If someone claims that ‘GOD IS REAL’ and ‘This is what God wants’ …then they tell me all about what sort of god it is without showing me any evidence…well, I really have no choice but to dismiss that.

I do not believe a real god exists, but I am very happy to explore the question as long as I can leave the matter open ended. Until harder evidence emerges, god is just a fun guessing game.

    Atheist Max:
Some people can say, “We believe in God”, and mean that there is a person looking after them. Others can mean that an ineffable infinite reality of supreme value underlies all things. In an age where science is king, it is held that the literal, the countable, the verifiable, is the only form of truth. All else must be illusion; all philosophy, religion, morality, art and feeling must be ground into the machine of science. The highest human visions and aspirations must be explicated in terms of the blind motions of elementary physical particles.

No laboratory has ever recorded evidence of special divine effects. Could it be that we have accepted the sole truth of physical science and end up by denying the reality of the consciousness experiences from which all theories begin? The schools of positivism and materialism, have shown themselves quite unable to express the idea that humans have knowledge of an objective reality through their subjective experiences.

It seems to me, that most dramatic emergent reality in the universe, is consciousness. It would be extraordinary if the contents of consciousness – thoughts, feelings, perceptions and desires – which are generated by the neural network of the brain, had no causal effect on that brain or its immediate environment. It is certain that the basic laws of physics, the queen of science, cannot explain the contents of consciousness, since such contents are neither stated in the premisses of physical laws nor entailed by their operation.

GOD SAYS – CUT OFF YOUR WIFE’S HAND IF SHE TOUCHES ANOTHER MAN’S PENIS.

“If men get into a fight with one another, and the wife of one intervenes to rescue her husband from the grip of his opponent by reaching out and SEIZING HIS GENITALS, you shall cut off her hand; show no pity.” – (DEUTERONOMY. 25:11)

Stop sinning! It’s making you so confused! The Pharisees didn’t keep the law. They wanted to kill Jesus because he was healing people on the Sabbath. They didn’t keep God’s commandments and laws. On the Sabbath they went to Pilot and asked for guards to watch the tomb. They were supposed to rest on the Sabbath not go to Pilot and ask for guards. The Pharisees didn’t love God which is the first commandment.
